  • Standing Tall at Christmas

The old African proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child”, has never been more true that it was for Aidmore this Christmas.  In fact, several “villages” came together, from all over the state of Georgia, to make Christmas 2018 one to remember. The support of the Georgia Elks Lodges, Georgia Elks Aidmore Auxiliaries, and the growing support from our community partners, has been absolutely amazing. This year, gifts were provided to approximately 160 foster children and youth from a multitude of individuals and community organizations.

The Conyers Christmas program on December 9th was coordinated by the Aidmore Committee, consisting of Miriam Wheeler (Chairman), Deborah Johnson (South District), Peggy Jones, (NW District), Diane Stevens (NE District), and Advisor Saundra Abel.  A special acknowledgement goes to Theresa Parker (Covington) and Angela Spivey (Eatonton) for their efforts in the kitchen. Garry and Shelli Stephens (Augusta) did an outstanding job as Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Residents on the Aidmore campus celebrated the season by creating “Wreaths-A Symbol of Hope and Peace”.  At the end of the program, the wreaths were auctioned for a total of $250. The residents used the funds to aid a family in Rutledge and provide supplies for the homeless.   A special musical solo by resident Le’Coryea Taylor highlighted the festivities. The program was coordinated by Elks Aidmore staff Tantrece Brown, Patti McGrew, Laura Nichols, Kadesha Piper and Linda Richardson.  Facility Manager Robert Hawk and Assistant Facility Manager Josh Milligan provided exceptional support to the activities of the weekend.

In addition, Elks Aidmore hosted a Christmas program on Saturday, December 15th for the Conyers Therapeutic Foster Care families and children. Josh Milligan did double-duty on this day, portraying Santa Claus.  On December 16th, the Valdosta Elks Lodge and Auxiliary held their annual Christmas party for our Valdosta foster parents and children, providing a meal, food baskets and toys.  Also, on December 16th, the Savannah Elks Lodge and Auxiliary included our Savannah foster families and children in their annual community Christmas gathering.  The Dalton Elks Lodge sponsored the wish lists of all the children being served out of the Dalton office.

Thank you to the Georgia Elks Association, the Georgia Elks Aidmore Auxiliaries, Elks Lodges, Elks Aidmore Auxiliaries, Aidmore Staff and countless community supporters who made this Christmas a little brighter for the children and youth in our care.  Together, we ARE making a difference in the lived s of Georgia’s children and families.
