  • Merry Christmas In Georgia

The Christmas holidays can be an especially emotional and challenging time for children in foster care. However, Christmas Angels from all over the state of Georgia ensured the children and youth served by Elks Aidmore were well taken care of this Christmas.

The Christmas season kicked off with the Conyers-based Christmas Party for residential services on December 7th. The Auxiliary Aidmore Committee, chaired by Pam Stewart, coordinated a decorating party in the gymnasium on Saturday, followed by the Christmas Party and Silent Auction on Sunday. A highlight of the Christmas program was “Aidmore 360”, a video presentation produced by Residential Services Director Patti McGrew, outlining the many accomplishments and activities of the residential program. A special thanks to Georgia Elks Association Past State President Larry Emmett and Theresa Parker for their roles as Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The Christmas parties continued December 14 th with a return to the Conyers gymnasium to celebrate the Conyers Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) children. Over 200 participants enjoyed breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus, played by Josh Milligan (Elks Aidmore Assistant Plant Director) and especially Theresa Parker, who was recruited for the second consecutive weekend.

Christmas was celebrated December 15th in the Dalton and Savannah areas. The Cartersville Elks Lodge sponsored a “Lunch with Santa” for the children served in the Dalton office, which included a meal, pictures with Santa, and a gift for each child. The Lodge also provided gifts to the biological children of each foster parent. Friends of Elks Aidmore staff members Bethany Jackson and Leah Ozment, Elks Aidmore Trustee Junior Roberson and the Dalton Elks Lodge sponsored each child’s Wish List from the Elks Aidmore website and delivered those presents to the individual homes.

The Savannah Elks Lodge and Savannah Elks Auxiliary hosted a community-wide Christmas party with over 200 people attending, including the children in the Savannah TFC program. Each child received a gift, and everyone enjoyed a meal at the Lodge. A few days after the party, the Savanah Elks Auxiliary delivered special Christmas presents to the Savannah office.

The Valdosta Elks Lodge and Valdosta Elks Aidmore Auxiliary hosted an event December 22nd for the children and families served by the Valdosta TFC program. Elks Aidmore foster families were provided a meal and food boxes. Each child received a gift, visited the Clothes Closet, and spent time with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

A total of 109 children were sponsored through the Elks Aidmore Wish List this year. There was an outpouring of compassion, generosity and love from the Elks Lodges, Aidmore Auxiliaries, staff members, Trustees and many community sponsors. Additional thanks to National Building Contractors in Conyers who provided gift cards and presented Elks Aidmore with a check for $5,000 to cover any children who were not sponsored on the website. On behalf of the children and youth served by Elks Aidmore, the Board of Trustees, and the Elks Aidmore staff, we thank you all for your continuing support and commitment to “healing hearts, restoring hopes and rebuilding lives”.
