  • Our Shining Stars

The Multi-Agency Alliance for Children (MAAC) holds an annual fundraising and recognition event titled “A Starry Night”.  Each year, MAAC recognizes four Adult Shining Stars and four Youth Shining Stars. At the 2019 event, two of the Youth Shining Stars were from Elks Aidmore.  MAAC wrote the following tributes in the event program.

“Jordan has been working with the EmpowerMEnt/LEADS program for two years and has not only been a much-needed male presence, but a role model as well. Jordan has been actively engaged in helping to coordinate over 10 events for over 300 youth.  He has been involved in making sure that planning is conducted, youth are having fun, and surveys are being completed. While Jordan can be very quiet at times, he does not shy away from being a leader and holding his peers and himself accountable in a manner leaving his peers respecting him.”

Shannelle came to Elks after experiencing different placements.  Shannelle went through an adjustment period but was communicating and being honest with people to get extra support when she needed it.  Overt the holidays, Shannelle had her first visit with her mom and sisters in two years and it was a beautiful moment for her. Now Shannelle is attending school, making good grades, and is touring and exploring colleges.  She has now moved into the transitional living program at Elks, which will allow her to build on her independence.”

Congratulations to Jordan and Shannelle for their hard work and this special recognition.
